Char Dham Pilgrims Must Carry Trash Bags.

Uttarakhand-bound tourists, especially Char Dham pilgrims visiting Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri, will now have to carry mandatory trash bags in their vehicles. Vehicles found without trash bags will face action. The Uttarakhand government has noticed litter in the eco-sensitive areas of the Himalayas and decided to monitor vehicles arriving without trash bags. A fortnight after implementing the rule, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi instructed officials to strictly enforce it and take necessary actions.

Officials in the Secretariat and district administrations, especially in seven districts of the Garhwal region, have been directed to enforce the rule for trash bags in vehicles of pilgrims and tourists. They must inform tourists about this requirement while issuing trip cards and regularly issue challans to those who do not comply. Letters will be sent to municipal bodies and district panchayats to ensure proper enforcement.

The Chief Secretary also ordered department heads to update real-time data on the soon-to-be-launched Chardham Dashboard. This dashboard will enable effective information exchange and data sharing among departments related to the Char Dham. Additionally, the Uttarakhand government will implement GIS tagging of completed works along the Char Dham Yatra route and include popular tourist places like Mussoorie in the dashboard to provide tourists with real-time information. The Chief Secretary also directed district magistrates along the Char Dham route to coordinate with relevant agencies to enroll all mules providing services for the Char Dham pilgrimage under insurance policies.
