Kedarnath: Over 7 lakh pilgrims have visited Baba Kedar since opening. Over 4 thousand yatris will be sent to Chardham from today.

The number of pilgrims visiting Kedarnath has reached more than 7 lakh 10 thousand. The number of pilgrims is constantly increasing for Chardham. Four thousand pilgrims will be sent on the Char Dham Yatra every day from today. Four thousand pilgrims were registered on Thursday. Also, another four thousand pilgrims were given tokens for registration the next day.

During the Char Dham Yatra, three times more pilgrims are reaching Kedarnath as compared to the other shrines. In the first 25 days, the number of pilgrims has doubled as compared to last year. During this period, more than 16.5 lakh pilgrims have visited Chardham, whereas last year this figure was close to 10.88 lakh.

The Char Dham Yatra began with the opening of the doors of Gangotri Dham on 10 May. In the initial days itself, a huge crowd of pilgrims had gathered for the Yatra. The situation was such that when the number of pilgrims reaching the Dhams was more than the capacity, the administration had to stop the people in Rishikesh and Haridwar itself. Observing the trends of this year, the maximum number of pilgrims are visiting Kedarnath among all the Chardham. In the first 25 days, 6,48,234 pilgrims have reached here whereas last year this figure was 3,24,684.

Note: The figures for the year 2024 are till June 3. All the figures have been provided by the Chardham Yatra Transit Camp Administration. The figures are for the first 25 days of both the years.

Offline registrations for Chardham Yatra were started again from June 1. On the first day, there was a slot for only 1,500 passengers. Tokens were issued to the same number of passengers for the next day. This led to a backlog of pilgrims in Rishikesh. The situation was such that many passengers who got tokens were left standing and the 1,500 registration slots were full. The pilgrims who remained empty-handed protested at the ISBT gate for two consecutive days. The situation somehow became normal after the police convinced them.

After inspection at the Haridwar transit camp, the Chief Minister directed to register 4,000 passengers each in Rishikesh and Haridwar from June 4. After the instructions, a slot of three thousand was made in Rishikesh. Within two days, the backlog of pilgrims in Rishikesh started reducing. On the second day, Wednesday, four thousand tokens were issued by the Yatra administration. Four thousand pilgrims were registered on Thursday. During the registration of 4,000 pilgrims at a time, there was a crowd at the registration counter from 7am to 2pm.

The OSD (Officer Special Duty) for Yatra Administration, Mr. Narendra Singh Kwiriyal said that the pilgrims coming to the camp are being asked to submit the required details along with a photocopy of their Aadhar card. After this, tokens are being issued to them. By sending four thousand pilgrims on the yatra in a day, there will be no crowd in Rishikesh.
