Chardham Yatra 2024: This year, the goal is to accommodate over 80,000 vehicles during the Chardham Yatra to help ease traffic congestion.
To manage the expected crowds, the police administration has set up 130 parking areas where around 70,000 vehicles of various sizes can be parked. These include both permanent and temporary spots. Haridwar will have the most parking availability, while Pauri will have the least. Chamoli has been designated with the highest number of parking spaces. To further alleviate traffic issues, 20 percent more parking spaces have been added compared to previous years.
DIG Law and Order P Renuka Devi has been appointed as the traffic nodal officer for this event. Following directives from the Police Headquarters, all seven districts in the Garhwal region have been tasked with marking out parking areas. These districts include Haridwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Uttarkashi. Efforts are ongoing to identify additional parking spots.
The initiative also includes marking hazardous turns and spots prone to accidents along the routes. Information about these areas will be available at Tourism Police Help Centers and General Police Help Centers.
Here is a breakdown of the parking arrangements:
