Augustmuni is a quaint little town situated on the banks of River Mandakini in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. The place lies on the way to Kedarnath and it is only 18 km away from Rudraprayag which is another beautiful town surrounded by the great mountains of Uttarakhand. As surmised from the name ‘Augustmuni’, the town was the spiritual abode of Saint Agastya who was a well-known scholar according to Hindu Mythology. It is also believed that he was the very first person who spread Yoga around the whole world. There is a famous temple in this town by the same name and it is believed that it was the place where the sage Agastya worshipped to Lord Shiva. The temple has also marked its importance under Archeological Survey of India and it has beautiful carvings of famous Hindu idols on its walls.

Chandrashila
Chandrashila is one of the famous trekking sites of Uttarakhand where millions of adventurers come to carve their name of conquering a beautiful Himalayan range of Uttarakhand. The place is also a famous skiing site so if you are looking for places where you can ski in India then you can head towards this place. There is a Lord Shiva temple at this place which is believed to have some great spiritual power and asking for a wish usually get answered by Lord Shiva himself.
Ukhimath which is only 24 km away from Augustmuni is yet another spiritual site situated at an altitude of 1,311 meters above sea level. It is an alternative to Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar during winters since Kedarnath closes during winters so pilgrims come here to worship Lord Shiva. There is a famous temple called as Omkareshwar, it is where all the rituals of Kedarnath are performed during winters.
From July to September, Uttarakhand receives heavy rainfall due to which it may not be a good idea to visit this town during that time. And apart from this time period, this place is good to explore around the year. To beat the summer heat, you can come and explore this town because the temperature here falls into the range of 25 degrees to 32 degrees.
And if you want to see this town swallowed in snowfall, then you can also visit this town during winters but keep heavy woolen clothing with you so that you won’t catch a cold.
Augustmuni is only 434 km away from Delhi and 18 km away from Rishikesh. So, you can plan accordingly from taking a private taxi that directly leaves you to Augustmuni or a train, you can choose from any option.
By Air
If you choose this option then, the nearest Airport that you can find to this place is Jolly Grant Airbase in Dehradun and from there, you can either hop on a private taxi or you can also take the Volvo bus to reach this place.
By Train
If you decide that train will be a better option for you then, the nearest Railway station to this place is Dehradun Railway Station. From there, you can find n number of private taxi services available which will leave to this place safely. Or if you are keen on taking a Volvo bus then, the Bus Stand is adjacent to Railway Station from where you can get a bus ticket.
By Road
The last option is driving to this place by yourself or hop on a bus. Because Augustmuni is very well connected by a motorable road so you can take a bus but you won’t be able to get a direct bus. Firstly, you need to reach Rishikesh and from there, you can get a direct bus up to this place.
