Some people discover Char Dham Yatra by accident. Laxmi Prasad was born into it. Growing up in Rudraprayag, the confluence of Alaknanda & Mandakini, he watched thousands of pilgrims arrive every summer — full of faith, often unprepared for the mountains.
He saw families separated at temple queues. Elderly parents left stranded when routes closed suddenly. Pilgrims book with large online companies without knowing the ground reality and operational challenges of the route. Later, they face problems during the journey due to lack of proper support, coordination, and local assistance.
In 2010, after more than a decade working in Uttarakhand and completing the Char Dham circuit multiple times himself, he founded Chardham Tour with a single commitment: to become the operator he always wished existed when his own family undertook the Yatra.
Today, he still personally reviews every itinerary for senior citizen groups, still takes calls during the Yatra season at 2 AM when a pilgrim needs help, and still walks the Kedarnath trail at least once each season to know firsthand what your family will experience.

In the years before 2010, Char Dham Yatra was frequently a test of endurance rather than devotion. Poor road coordination, overcrowded dharamshalas, no real-time weather communication, and a fragmented ecosystem of local guides, unverified hotels, and private transporters made the pilgrimage genuinely risky — especially for senior citizens and first-time devotees from outside Uttarakhand.
The 2013 Kedarnath disaster — one of the worst tragedies in the history of Uttarakhand — was a turning point for everyone in the region. Chardham Tour was among the operators who participated in relief coordination. What we witnessed reinforced everything we believed: pilgrims deserve a partner who is truly present in the mountains, not just on the phone from a city office.
We built Chardham Tour to be that partner. Not a booking platform. Not an aggregator. A genuine Destination Management Company (DMC) with boots on the ground at every Dham — and a team that treats your family's pilgrimage as seriously as their own.

Safety & Emergency ProtocolsChar Dham Yatra takes pilgrims to altitudes between 3,133 metres (Kedarnath) and 3,415 metres (Badrinath). Weather in the Himalayas can change within hours. Roads can close. Bodies need time to acclimatise. This is not a beach holiday — and we plan for it accordingly.
Altitude acclimatisation planning:
Every itinerary is paced to allow proper acclimatisation,
with mandatory rest stops built in — especially critical for senior pilgrims
and those with cardiac or respiratory conditions.
Medical emergency protocol:
Each yatra batch has a ground coordinator who is trained in basic first aid
and carries emergency medical contact cards. We maintain relationships with
hospitals in Rishikesh, Srinagar Garhwal, and Rudraprayag.
Weather disruption handling:
When routes are closed due to landslides or bad weather,
our team activates alternative accommodation arrangements within the hour —
no pilgrim is left stranded without support.
24-hour emergency line:
Our emergency support line operates throughout the Yatra season,

What We Know About Each Dham — Operational Depth
Destination ExpertiseKedarnath — The Most Demanding Dham
Kedarnath requires a 16-km trek (or helicopter) to reach the 3,583-metre temple. The trail, though well-maintained post-2013, demands physical fitness and proper acclimatisation. We recommend an overnight stay at Sitapur/ Rampur/ Phata before proceeding. Our team knows which ponies and palanquins are managed by reliable operators (registered with the Forest Department), and we arrange VIP darshan through legitimate channels to reduce temple-queue time for elderly pilgrims.
Badrinath — The Most Organised Dham
Badrinath at 3,415 metres is road-accessible but weather-dependent. The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) manages darshan queues tightly. We coordinate to ensure your group receives pepper darshan. Our Joshimath coordinator monitors the NH-58 road condition in real time during the season.
Gangotri — The Source of the Ganga
Gangotri sits at 3,048 metres in Uttarkashi district. The road from Uttarkashi can be challenging in June–July due to monsoon-related landslides. We plan Gangotri portions of the itinerary with built-in buffer days — because rushing Gangotri in poor weather is both unsafe and spiritually unsatisfying. Our Uttarkashi-based coordinator handles. Our pandit ji receives our guests at Gangotri dham and offers them pooja & darshan arrangements.
Yamunotri — The Earliest Opening Dham
Yamunotri, source of the Yamuna river, involves a 6-km trek from Janki Chatti. The trail is steep but manageable with proper footwear. We coordinate Barkot stays to allow an early morning departure for Yamunotri — the ideal time before afternoon crowds and weather changes. Senior pilgrims are pre-arranged with palanquins from established, registered operators.

Competitive DifferentiationThere are hundreds of websites selling "Char Dham packages." Many of them are marketing interfaces that sub-contract every element — vehicles, guides, hotels — to whoever bids lowest. If something goes wrong in the mountains at midnight, they cannot help you.
