Tour OverviewExpand all
Is there a more real corporeal manifestation of God than Nature Herself? In fact, religiosity and nature-love go hand in hand in our spiritual traditions. What if we told you of the possibility of a trek that combines the pleasures of trekking, adventure, nature love and pilgrimage? Would you be interested? This is exactly what our meticulously planned Dodital Yamunotri trek offers you.
The freshwater lake of Dodital is renowned for its pristine beauty. Dodital is located at an altitude of 3024 m above sea level. Dodi tal is also the source of Assi Ganga, which goes on to meet Bhagirathi river at Gangotri. The trek is a favorite among both novices and expert trekkers. In fact, the trek is graded moderate in terms of difficulty. So even if you have never tried trekking before, you can do ‘Sri Ganesh’ with this trek. Well, talking of Sri Ganesh, did we tell you Dodi tal is closely associated with Lord Ganesh? Some consider Dodital to have been the birthplace of Lord Ganesh. While for some others, Dodi tal is his chosen abode. Whatsoever be the truth, Dodital’s association with Sri Ganesh cannot be denied. In fact, the other name of the trek is Dhundital which translates to Lake of Lord Ganesh. As is expected from all the above references, Dodital also carries in her bosom a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh.
The crystal clear water of Dodital is enshrouded by lush greenery. In fact, forests of pine, oak, rhododendron and deodar add to its effervescent beauty. No wonder the lake is considered so precious by nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. Some of the popular activities one tends to indulge in and around Dodi tal are nature walk, bird watching, trekking, boating and angling.
The second leg of the journey which consists in our trekking till Yamunotri shrine lets one into the numinous sphere where spiritual meets nature, yet again. Yamunotri shrine venerates birth of River Yamuna, and the trek is considered so spiritually auspicious as to enable the erasure of even one’s anomalies related to fated death, since Lord Yama is the brother River Ganga. It is pilgrimage to Yamunotri with which the revered char dham Yatra begins.
When to Visit?
The ideal time to visit Dodital would be summers or in the post-monsoon season. Himalayas are at its best during the summer season. Dodital-Yamunotri trail is no exception. One may come across even slight snowfall during the post-monsoon months of September and October. This adds to the already alluring scenic beauty of the place.
