The Samadhi that was dedicated to Adi Shankaracharya and was situated right behind the Divya Shila will soon be converted into an underground cave. For this very purpose a 100-meter long cave will be built. The construction for the cave will begin soon. The earlier Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi was destroyed completely during the 2013 flash flood debacle. Immediately after this devastating calamity the reconstruction work of this Samadhi had kick-started.
New Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi to be built in an Underground Cave
Last year, during a visit to the Kedarnath Dham, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the new Samadhi or mausoleum for Adi Shankaracharya would be built in a grand and majestic form. The district magistrate of Rudraprayag – Mangesh Ghildiyal said that a cave for the Samadhi will be reconstructed in an area of 3 sq. km.
The Underground Cave Will Re-Construct Right behind Divya Shila
The underground cave Samadhi will be able to hold a capacity of 1,000 pilgrims at one time. The prime minister’s plan was not to get any construction get done above ground level behind the main temple shrine, so that the pilgrims are able to observe and witness the natural beauty of Kedarnath without any obstruction in view. Hence, a decision was taken to get the mausoleum constructed underground. He also informed that in the past the Samadhi was built right behind the temple before the flood washed it away and the new underground cave Samadhi will be built in the same spot. The DM of Rudraprayag also informed that apart from this construction, seating arrangements for the devotees will be made around the Divya Shila.
