Pind Daan or most commonly referred to as Asthi Visarjan is one post-cremation ritual which is performed by every Hindu in order to send the soul of their loved ones to the heavenly realm and attain their moksha. According to the ritual, people free the ashes left behind after the cremation of the mortal remains, which grants them moksha or the liberation from the karmic cycle of birth and rebirth. Ganga River is the holiest of all rivers where this procedure takes place. There are several places one could go and get this done with the help of professional Brahmin pundits.

Pind Daan at Brahma Kapal in Badrinath Dham
Located behind the temple and on the banks of the holy Alaknanda River this staircase shaped platform leads into the river from where devotees also take a dip along with performing the holy ritual. This ritual was first performed by lord brahma the very first time in history. As per the process a round ball is created called Pind which is made out of rice flour, oats, milk and honey long with benni seeds. With the help of these raw materials the Pandit along with other significant clergymen creates 7 different Pinds depicting the ancestral spirits.
